• No me interesan en absoluto los orígenes de Stonehenge. No me importa la verdadera historia que hay detrás ni si debería salvarse o no. • Conocía las playas holandesas como territorios artificiales, en el marco de diversos proyectos de recuperación de tierras. Pero también me interesaba la realidad mediática de la llegada a la Luna. Quería utilizar ese acontecimiento como medida del tiempo, para ver qué había ocurrido en esos treinta años, que casualmente también son los míos. Nací en 1967 y recuerdo haber visto la llegada a la Luna por televisión cuando tenía dos años. Todas esas cosas estaban en juego. Luego se convirtió en una gran producción. Hicieron falta cinco meses para reunir la buena voluntad y hacerlo realidad.

• Of course I can have a simple reaction of sympathy and sorrow to destruction. But you also know that you can't have new things if you don't occasionally destroy the old. That's something you're really not allowed to say because things are often destroyed according to particular power relations so it means taking a stand in those cases, which I am not really interested in doing either. I think I am simply interested in looking.

• Yo era un pésimo académico. Me pasaba la mayor parte del tiempo en la cafetería. Pero conocí a gente fantástica de todo tipo de campos; derecho, medicina, historia, y acabaron dispersándose por todo el mundo para hacer su trabajo de campo. Me gustó el modo en que estas personas se comprometían a largo plazo de forma sincera y visionaria. Sus proyectos no eran para "la próxima temporada". Eran compromisos a diez años. Eran opciones de estilo de vida que incorporaban tradiciones de trabajo de campo: desplazarse, vivir en el lugar, disciplina, un verdadero rigor para la investigación.
